Chemical Laboratories

Well-equipped chemical laboratories for the determination of any physic-chemical parameter needed in order to determine water or wastewater quality. E.g., pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, COD, BOD, turbidity, metals, organic matter, N-compounds, phosphorus, cations, anions, color, solids (total, suspended, dissolved, volatiles), specific organic compounds, etc.

Analyses in solid/sludge sample: e.g. solids (non- and volatiles), metals content after digestion, C-H-N-O content, organic/inorganic matter, composition, surface characteristics, etc.

Specific analytical devices for the determination of metals-trace elements

  • Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS), used for the determination of a wide range of elements in liquid or solid samples with the flame, the graphite tube, the hydride and HydrEA techniques.
  • Inductive Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES), used for the determination of a wide range of elements in liquid samples.

Specific analytical devices for organic matter (in soil and liquid samples)

TOC/TIC Analyser
  • Spectrophotometers UV/Vis, with several applications regarding organic matter monitoring and determination
  • TOC/TIC analyzer, for the determination of organic/inorganic carbon and total nitrogen content in liquid or solid samples.
  • Elemental Analyzer, for the determination of carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, sulfur and oxygen content in liquid or solid samples (CHNOS Analyzer).

Devices for the determination of specific organic compounds (e.g. pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors)

Liquid Chromatography
  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC-UV/DAD) for the determination of non-volatile organic components in liquid samples (e.g. polymers, heavy hydrocarbons, proteins, pharmaceuticals, etc.).
  • Gas Chromatography with Flame Ionization Detector (GC-FID),for the determination of volatile organic components in liquid samples (also with the use of headspace sampler).

Specific analytical devices the determination of inorganic components - anions

Gas Chromatography
  • Ion Chromatography (IC), for chromatographic determination of anions in liquid samples
  • Wet Chemistry Analyzer (Flow Injection Analyzer, FIA), for the determination of nutrients and other parameters in liquid or solid samples (also food samples). Examples: nitrogen compounds (ammonium, nitrate, nitrite, total nitrogen), total phosphorus, phosphates.
