Excursion to Aswan

Aswan, October 2015 – Students from the fourth intake visited the city of Aswan and its 1997 commenced extension New Aswan in a double missioned excursion. The first reason was an exercise in urban analysis in the old part of Aswan, the second part a visit to the new town of New Aswan. New Aswan is the current topic of the first term project for the fourth intake.

15 October 2015, El Gouna - In the framework of the third semester project on the informal settlement of Zerzara in Hurghada, the students had the chance to get external input from Rossana Poblet. Under the title ‘Strategies to fight water scarcity and urban risks traps in Lima’ she introduced two projects which are of high relevance for the case of Hurghada.

25-26 October 2015, Cairo – The dean of the Department of Urban Development of Campus El Gouna and students of the first and second intake attended the conference ‘Historic Districts for Tomorrow’. The conference was organized by Cairo and Alexandria University, and Brandenburg University of Technology, (Germany).


Excursion showing urban development paradigms of Berlin

Berlin, April-July 2015 – Berlin is an open-air exhibition for urban-planning and urban-development paradigms.  During the summer semester 2015, the students attended a series of excursions and city walks within Berlin with the objective to see various neighborhoods presenting these paradigms. Additionally to these Berlin excursions, some other trips were organized to other cities like Görlitz, Hamburg or Dessau.  

UD Students join a joint workshop on urban expansion in Indonesia

June 2015, Surakarta - The city of Surakarta, also known as Solo, is a town in Central Java of Indonesia. From 1st till 12th of June 2015, Solo was the host for a summer workshop called “Urban Expansion” in collaboration between four universities from the US, Singapore, Indonesia and as the fourth, with Campus El Gouna.

Excursion to Hamburg

June 2015, Hamburg - On 22 June 2014, the students of Urban Development department had an excursion to Hamburg. The aim of the one-day trip was to visit the „HafenCity“, Europe’s largest inner-city development project as well as Wilhelmsburg district, the project area for the Internationale Bauausstellung IBA Hamburg (International Building Exhibition).

April 2015, Görlitz - The Department of Urban Development undertook an excursion to the historic city of Görlitz in the most eastern part of Germany. The city has been a significant center of trade and culture since the middle ages.

June 2015, Cairo - The Department of Urban Development of TU Berlin Campus El Gouna presented itself at the First Egypt Urban Forum [11]held in Cairo on June 14th, 15th and 16th, 2015. More than 300 Egyptian institutions and experts were invited in order to shape Egypt’s future urban agenda and contribute to the World Urban Agenda at the Habitat III Global Conference in 2016.

Joint workshop on “Human Oriented Transportation in Egypt in Teaching and Research”

January 2015, El Gouna - Urban Development students have attended the joint workshop and seminar on “Human Oriented Transportation in Egypt in Teaching and Research” from 18-22 January. The workshop was designated to both the first and third semester studentw and was organized in partnership with several Egyptian and European universities as well as other non-governmental organizations and groups for sustainable development.
