From the very beginning, TU Berlin Campus El Gouna was planned and built to become the hub for research and international cooperation of TU Berlin in Egypt. The Campus offers the required infrastructure and services for research activities, academic events, conventions, workshops, and the like. Based in a central location of the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa), the Egyptian branch is TU Berlin's gateway to the area, which is of particular importance to the university's international cooperation strategy.
Already before the Campus was built, TU Berlin carried out a large number of cooperative projects in the MENA region, which are closely related to the core topics of the the new representation in El Gouna. Through these acitivities a large network of international partners that share our interest in the development of the region, including universities, research institutions, private companies, public authorities, associations, and students, has developed over the years.
In the past, WANACU (West Asia North Africa Cooperation Unit) used to be responsible for the coordination and development of TU Berlin's academic activities in the MENA region. Since its opening in 2012, Campus El Gouna has assumed many of WANACU's former projects, thereby strengthening and extending the existing networks.
