Schedules and characteristics

New students are accepted into the Master's degree program “Energy Engineering” each winter semester (October –March). The majority of the courses are held at the Campus El Gouna in Egypt, whereas the remaining courses are taught in Berlin. All Courses are taught in English.  

The curriculum focuses on: 

  • Energy engineering, with particular emphasis on applied and advanced thermodynamic and economic aspects;
  • Energy conversion techniques and integration of renewable energies, with practical experiments involving conventional conversion systems;
  • Refrigeration and air condoning under special climatic conditions;
  • Energy for buildings, especially primary energy consumption for heating and cooling equipment, along with calculation methods for planning of sophisticated homes and offices;
  • Electrical energy engineering, with special consideration of photovoltaic and different kind of energy storage systems;
  • Energy economics and systems, focusing on complex energy systems and the integration of renewable energy in markets, ensuring secure supply and commodity markets;
  • Social skills, intercultural competence, and research methods;
  • Practical and interdisciplinary projects and industry internship.


Students have the opportunity to choose among electives, to determine the subject of their project and their Master's thesis individually. Students receive extensive mentoring and support from professors and research associates of TU Berlin. Due to the spacious campus they can work in their own project room.

Study Areas and Modules

The master’s degree program in Energy Engineering covers the following core study areas (I-VI) and appendant moduls:

(V) Internship (6 Credits)

(VI) Master`s Thesis (27 Credits)
